Dr. Johnny H. Esteves

Postdoctoral Researcher

Johnny Esteves is a postdoctoral researcher in the Stubbs group at Harvard. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where he worked with Marcelle Soares-Santos. His research uses the abundance and weak-lensing signal of galaxy clusters to constrain dark energy, with an emphasis on the systematic errors that limit those measurements. He leads one of the two Dark Energy Survey cluster-cosmology key projects.

At the Vera C. Rubin Observatory he works on LSSTCam characterization, the guider pipeline, and deep-learning forecasts of dome and mirror temperatures that help reduce dome and mirror seeing. He also built the automation for PANDORA, a portable calibration box designed to measure telescope throughput curves to 0.1% flux precision (Sjoberg, Esteves & Stubbs, SPIE 2025). He has mentored Ph.D. students and undergraduates on projects ranging from cluster cosmology to the design of a calibration instrument, and he maintains open-source software including CLensPy.
